Loan shark harassment led to family suicide

A COUPLEwho could not endure the harassment of loan sharks because of the enormous debt they had accumulated decided they had had enough.

On the morning of December 1, 2006, the tour guide and his wife, who were selling fried chicken at a street vendor, in their unit at the Desa Seri Puteri Apartments in Kuala Lumpur, decided to end it all as a family.

They allegedly fed their three sons fatal doses of bleach before placing an open-valve kitchen gas cylinder next to the children.

Watching Seah Siew Tong, eight, Siew Mun, 10, and Siew Cheong, 12, writhing in pain, the couple attempted suicide by slashing their wrists.

They were bleeding from their wounds, but a few hours later the woman had changed her mind.

She called the police for help.

She told police her three children were barely alive after ingesting the cleaning liquid.

Nearby patrol officers rushed over to the apartment but were unable to gain entry to the locked home as the couple were too weak to move.

When the police tried to force open a grate, a bunch of keys flew at them.

The children’s father, who could barely crawl, threw it at the police officers.

When police officers entered, they were stunned to see the lifeless bodies of the three little brothers side by side in a room.

The siblings were dead and their parents, who were in critical condition, were taken to a nearby hospital.

After treatment in the hospital, the couple survived the suicide attempt.

Police arrested the couple for investigations into the murder-suicide case and ordered the duo to be sent for a psychiatric evaluation.

Police investigations revealed several loan sharks showed up at the couple’s home several days before the tragic event to harass them over a debt of over RM100,000.
