Liverpool make history against Manchester United as Mohamed Salah cements his legendary status

The history books were torn up on Sunday night as Liverpool humiliated rivals Manchester United 7-0.
The Red Devils arrived at Anfield in superb form, having won the Carabao Cup just seven days earlier and suffered just one defeat in 2023 – a result nobody saw coming.
Liverpool rolled over United after the break
Manchester United were completely hopeless against Liverpool
Liverpool wiped the floor with their biggest rivals with a second-half performance in which they scored SIX goals that will long be remembered by fans of both sides.
Suspenders from Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and late goals from Roberto Firmino secured the overwhelming victory. This is the first time since 1908 that three Liverpool players have each scored at least two goals in a single game against United.
This was Man United’s worst defeat of all time in the Premier League and their worst in the league since Boxing Day 1931.
It was also Liverpool’s biggest win against United in their history, surpassing their 7–1 win over them in 1895.
It was a historic day for Salah as he became Liverpool’s all-time Premier League goalscorer.
His second-half double brought his total to 129 – a lead over Robbie Fowler in the Premier League. Quite a feat for the Egypt international who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017.

Salah’s incredible stats don’t stop there, however. He is the first player in Liverpool’s history to score in six consecutive games against United.
Only Alan Shearer (ten) has scored more against the Red Devils than the 30-year-old has in the Premier League, with Salah’s brace earning him nine against them, overtaking Sergio Aguero and Thierry Henry in the process.
He has also received more yellow cards at Anfield against United since the 2017/18 season for taking off his shirt in celebration [twice]when they met [once].
Salah also grabbed two assists in a vibrant performance from the ex-Chelsea star, becoming the first player in Europe to score 20 goals and provide ten assists in all competitions – 22 goals and 11 assists in total in just his 37th game so far.
Liverpool’s dominance over United at Anfield isn’t just limited to this Sunday as their last eight home games against the club have ended 2-0 0-0 0-0 3-1 2-0 0-0 4 – 0 and 7-0 – 18-1 overall.
In fact, the last time United scored at Anfield was in 2018 with 11 Liverpool goals since there was no reply.

Gakpo put in his best performance in the Reds shirt while being amazing throughout the season, including at PSV Eindhoven, being directly involved in 25 goals (13 goals, 12 assists) in 22 league games in 2022/23.
His strikes against United and Everton, Liverpool’s greatest rivals, make him the first Reds player to do so at home since Daniel Sturridge in 2013/14.
A dream day for Jurgen Klopp’s men but for Man United the investigation has begun and will be a while yet.
