LG pays 100% of workers’ health insurance

HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) – As the need for labor continues, a Dutch car battery manufacturing plant offers a major incentive.

LG energy solution has announced that it will provide 100% of employee medical, dental and eye care services starting in January. The company says they will be among less than 5% of employers in the US offering the incentive.

Depending on which plan they opt for, the incentive could put as much as $2,400 back in an employee’s pocket.

“At first…I didn’t believe it. I had to read it again,” said Shellie Ritsema, deputy environmental manager of LG Energy Solution. “I started to kind of get my head around, what can I do with this extra money?”

Help Wanted signs have become more of a request than a notification for local businesses. LG is no exception.

They hope the incentive will not only help retain current employees at the plant, but also attract the labor they need for the expansion of the plant in Holland, which is currently under construction.

“By 2025 we will be producing batteries there, and that is an additional 1,200 people, on top of the 1,500 people here in Holland. So we are definitely looking for collaborators,” said Val Gent, Communications Manager of LG Energy Solution.

According to LG Energy Solution, less than 5% of employers in the US offer to cover 100% of an employee’s health insurance.

“We think it is important to invest in the future of our employees and their families. So we think it’s just a big benefit for our people and we think it’s going to be great for the company as well,” said Gent.

Ritsema finally figured out how much money she will save and where the money will go.

“About $262 for me. So that’s a big deal, per paycheck,” Ritsema said. “At least half a car payment. My house will be paid off in July next year, so some extra cash for the principal. “

The company is already offering the same offering to its Hazel Park and Troy plants in the east of the state.
