Let’s get ready to shovel – the upcoming 2022-23 snow season

October 30 marks the long-term average date for the first snowflakes of the season to fly in the Chicago area, heralding the start of a new snow season that typically lasts well into April. Normally, the snow season begins with some flurries or a mix of rain and snow, but on rare occasions, measurable snow (0.1 inch or more) has surfaced early, well before its historic arrival in mid-November. The city’s current normal seasonal snowfall (based on data from 1991-2020) is 38.4 inches.
