Kid Cudi stars in new John Woo movie, Silent Night

Back in Octoberwe heard that John Woo was preparing to break an 18-year streak in which he had avoided Hollywood silent Nightan action movie starring Joel Kinnaman that is said to have zero dialogue – combine that with a Christmassy backdrop and you have… silent Night. The film, originally dubbed “basic,” features Kinnaman playing a father seeking revenge after his young son is accidentally caught in the crossfire of a Christmas Eve gang shootout. (It’s produced by Thunder Road Films, who do it John Wick movies, but it’s worth noting that there’s a fine line between “something like John Wick‘ and ‘something like deathwish,‘, so let’s hope this is more like the former.)
meeting is now reports that Kinnaman will be joined in the film by Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, with Kid Cudi playing a cop named Dennis Vassel (not particularly important, but good for any Dennis fans out there). What the meeting However, the story doesn’t specifically say whether or not silent Night should nevertheless be a completely dialogue-free film. When the project was announced there wasn’t a screenwriter, but now there is (Robert Lynn) and screenwriters tend to…you know, write dialogue.
A Hollywood reporter story about Kid Cudi being cast in the movie also doesn’t mention whether the movie still won’t talk or not, so there’s a chance the movie will still have at least some talking. Maybe it’s like the “It’s a show about nothing!” pitch off His field that Jerry and George had to go back quickly and John Woo went to the studios and said, “It’s called silent Night and there’s no talking!” until he realized that something like this – without the retro arrogance of The artist– may not be easy to pull off.
