KDN confiscate 14,249 unauthorized copies of Qur’an, reading materials

Sepang: The Enforcement and Control Department of the Ministry of the Interior (KDN) confiscated 14,249 copies of the Qur’an and reading materials that had not been approved by the Qur’an Printing Control and Licensing Authority (LPPPQ) in Klang Valley, Terengganu and Kelantan in the first two months Year.

Department Secretary Nik Yusaimi Yussof said the Holy Books were confiscated because the LPPPQ stamp and KDN hologram were not found on the outer cover and the script did not follow the Uthmani script.

“Upon further review, we found that there were errors here and there that we fear could affect reading accuracy and cause confusion,” he told media yesterday after an LPPPQ meeting here.

When asked which Al-Quran application has been approved by LPPPQ, he said only one has been certified so far, namely Smart Quran, which is being developed by the Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) in cooperation with the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). became KDN.

“The Smart Quran application is error free as it has been verified by LPPQ and has gone through the product certification process while other available applications have not gone through this process.

“We are not saying that other (Quran) claims are inaccurate, just that they have not gone through the verification process. Therefore, any party that has the expertise to develop a digital Quran model is encouraged to seek Board approval to ensure their Quran (application) is authentic and accurate,” he said.

Speaking of the outcome of today’s meeting, he said one of the agreed matters was the revocation of a printing company’s license in Penang because it no longer prints the Holy Books.

He said the meeting also approved four final corrections to the Qur’an text and with this addition the total number of final corrections approved so far is 916.

“The definitive proof is important to ensure that the Holy Quran is perfectly preserved and read without errors,” he said, adding that the number of KDN-certified Quran is sufficient to meet local demand. –Bernama
