Kanye West has reportedly pulled out of his headline appearance at this year’s Coachella festival.
The rapper and producer was set to headline the closing night of the two-week event, which runs April 15-17 and April 22-24, but loudly TMZ and diversity this will no longer be the case.
It wasn’t made clear why West canceled his performance at the California festival, but it was also reported that Travis Scott was due to perform alongside West and he will now also not be performing.
NME has reached out to Coachella and representatives from West for comment.
The news follows a petition started by fans last month to remove West from the festival’s lineup, which currently has nearly 50,000 signatures.
The Change.org petition was started on March 17 by a user using the alias Kim Pete after West was suspended from Instagram for his post about Trevor Noah that contained racial slurs. Noah recently opened up about West’s treatment of ex-wife Kim Kardashian on an episode of The daily Newscalled it “terrifying to look at”.
Back in February, West threatened to withdraw from Coachella after taking Billie Eilish’s comments as insults to Travis Scott.
Elsewhere, at this year’s Grammy Awards – which took place last night (April 3) – a scheduled appearance by West was canceled because of his “worrying online behavior”.
Accordingly diversityWest’s team was then contacted by the Grammys to reveal that a scheduled performance would “sadly” not go ahead due to Kanye exhibiting “concerning online behavior,” citing a report in The explosion.
At last night’s Grammy ceremony, West took home two awards: Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Hurricane” and Best Rap Song for “Jail.” You can see the full list of winners here.
This year’s Coachella — the first since 2019 — will be held over two weekends (April 15-17 and April 22-24) at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Billie Eilish and Harry Styles will headline the festival’s return. The Swedish House Mafia will also return to the festival.
Other star artists for this year’s event include Flume, Megan Thee Stallion, Disclosure, 21 Savage, Phoebe Bridgers, Doja Cat, Joji, Jamie xx and Run The Jewels.
