Kanye West has reportedly been canceled from a scheduled appearance at the 2022 Grammys due to “regarding online conduct.”
Earlier this week, the rapper was temporarily denied access to Instagram, with a meta representative claiming the rapper’s recent posts violated the rapper’s policies on hate speech, bullying and harassment.
The ban came after Kanye posted an image from the Google search page for Trevor Noah – who was commenting on West’s treatment of ex-wife Kim Kardashian on Tuesday’s (March 15) episode The daily News – alongside a caption containing racial slurs.
Accordingly diversityWest’s team was then contacted by the Grammys to say that “unfortunately” a planned performance – which was not announced as part of the first series of artist reveals earlier this week – was canceled due to Kanye’s “regarding online conduct,” citing a report in the explosion.
The 2022 Grammys are set to be hosted by Noah, although it has not been confirmed if this is part of the decision to remove Kanye’s performance from the running order.
Rapper and new Kanye collaborator The Game discussed the reported cancellation in an Instagram post, writing, “Time and time again they show us they just want to STEAL the culture, not allow you to ever be their equal. In a more than obvious move for the sake of tiny actions…. The Grammys made a last minute decision to pull (Kanye West) from the show like we didn’t know it was coming.
“Could be because (Trevor Noah) is hosting and there was a conversation between his team and the Academy that led to the decision, or because Ye’s account was suspended for unknown reasons just a few days ago, especially in a world where all the negativity of the world can be found in the same app with no repercussions or disruptions….
“We’re just saying it’s all of the above and a continued disrespect towards us and everything we’ve brought to the table in entertainment, media and sports over the last 100 years.”
Artists still set to play at the 2022 Grammys include Billie Eilish, BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow, Brandi Carlile and the Osborne Brothers, all of whom will perform onstage at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas arena on 3.
Eilish and Rodrigo are each nominated for seven awards tonight, while Lil Nas X is nominated for five.
Jon Batiste leads the nominations for the 2022 Grammys with nominations in 11 categories. Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and HER also competed for eight trophies.
Back in January, the Academy had postponed the planned Los Angeles show, stating that the rise of the COVID-19 Omicron variant was to blame. It was then announced that the event would now be held in Las Vegas for the first time in the event’s history.
