Justin Webb convicted of flashing Jordan Gray comment

Jordan Gray received critical acclaim for her performance on Channel 4’s Friday Night Live special. (Channel 4)
A BBC presenter was criticized for linking a serious story of flashing and sexual harassment against women to Jordan Gray’s nude comedy performance on Channel 4 last year.
Three women were interviewed on BBC Radio 4 on Tuesday (7 March) about their experiences while being spotlighted in London after disgraced police officer Wayne Couzens was revealed to have exposed himself to several women before marrying Sarah Everard in 2021 murdered.
Today program Moderator Justin Webb then interviewed MP Dame Diana Johnson about whether the police take blinking seriously enough.
After Johnson mentioned that flashing has “been laughed at” in the past and must be taken seriously as a sex offense, Webb compared the flashing to Gray’s performance in 2022, despite Channel 4 previously airing a nudity warning.
“I’m interested to hear what you said about ‘laughing’ and ‘joking,’ because in very different circumstances, but still something that many women found offensive, there was a comedian, Jordan Gray, who spoke on Channel moved out 4 last year,” Webb said.
“There were a lot of complaints, people said it was ‘disgraceful’, people said it was ‘misogynist’ but Ofcom said ‘no, it wasn’t’, and channel 4 was pretty proud of it.
“I was just wondering, more broadly in society, if the idea that people who don’t want to see the male body shouldn’t be allowed to is something we’ve kind of lost.”
“A beautiful moment of trans expression”
After the broadcast of the planned, rehearsed and followed C4 performance, TV regulator Ofcom told PinkNews that it had received 1,644 complaints about the incident in which Jordan Gray bared everything to use her penis to accompany her song “Better Than You”. to play on the keyboard..
Ofcom said it would not investigate further the “post-watershed comedy and music show”.
C4 Chief Executive Alex Mahon also endorsed the performance.
“She’s trans and she stripped naked at the end of the show, and I think that was the first time you’ve really seen a trans body and what it looks like on mainstream television,” Mahon said.
“That’s really important, it was a beautiful moment of trans expression. It was beautiful,” she added.
Webb’s comments were criticized after his show aired for comparing the harrowing experiences of flashing the three women opened up about to a comedy show preceded by nudity warnings.
“Justin Webb just touched on Jordan Gray’s performance channel 4 in connection with flashing and other sexual offenses. He didn’t mention that nudity in that TV show was being tracked in continuity announcements. There’s an absolutely dark and dishonest connection being made,” said one Twitter user explained.
One person called his comments “absolutely despicable,” while another Twitter user called the comparison unjustified when discussing the “dangers to women.”
Before discussing Jordan Gray, the three women interviewed explained that they were all singled out and spotlighted while walking alone. One of the women said she did not report the incident to police because she feared it would “do nothing”, while another said she felt “hurt”.
Gray’s performance was part of a one-off return special on the 1980s comedy series Friday night live. She sang a comedic song about her experiences as a trans woman before stripping naked in front of the crowd.
“The best thing about live TV is doing stupid things like that,” she joked before removing her bright pink suit.
Jordan Gray explained that she “cried on the way home” after her performance due to the sheer volume of positive comments she received.
“When someone’s life was made a little bit better, it was worth it. It was so cool I had to move the needle a little bit,” she said.
