We were due for a new one Joyce mansion Album. The pop punk band’s last release was in 2018 Millions of dollars to kill me. Luckily, Joyce Manor is back with the announcement of an upcoming album: 40 ounces. to Fresno. The album is will be released June 10th via Epitaph Records.
While fans can argue whether Joyce Manor actually counts as an emo the band does the argument that it pretty firmly in the “emo” camp by doing Motion City SoundtrackThis time Tony Thaxton plays on drums.
Although Joyce Manor didn’t have plans to record a new record for a while, the album came about after frontman Barry Johnson wrote songs in the middle the quarantine. “This album makes me think of our early tours, drinking a 40 on a night drive in the van, playing Guided By Voices and smoking all the way to Fresno,” the band said in a statement.
The title of the LP also comes from an autocorrected text about the Sublime album 40 oz. To Freedom, it doesn’t get any more Californian than that.
Joyce Manor fans will be happy to know that this album includes “Souvenir,” the band’s Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark cover, first released on the 2021 7″ split with Jawbreakers Blake Schwarzenbach. It also includes the B-side “Secret” from “Never Hungover Again Sisters” plus “NBTSA”, a remastered version of “Secret Sisters” that originally appeared on the 2017 Polyvinyl 4-Track Singles Series.
Joyce Manor also shared the album’s first single, “Gotta Let It Go”. The song feels a bit more stripped down and laid back than the band’s energetic previous material – but even with the happy ’90s vibes, it still feels very much like Joyce Manor.
