Jake Paul, the boxer-turned-internet sensation, has hinted to fans that he could return to the boxing ring in August. The only problem is that no opponent has been named yet and the general consensus is that Paul should fight someone with a boxing background. The potential opponent is also likely to be a needle puller due to low pay-per-view sales from the second Paul Woodley encounter.
During an episode of weigh in On the podcast, Josh Thomson shared his take on Chael Sonnen’s view that Jake Paul should fight Nate Diaz. Thomson said:
“I don’t know if he needs Nate, but he needs someone like him to move the needle. Also, I think because of the way he was able to knock out Woodley, they’re like, ‘Look, you obviously proved you can knock out someone like that. Now we have to see how you move to a better level of competition.’ Or who they think has a better level of competition. Someone who loves to box might work. When you get as far as he KO’d T Wood, they’re like, Nate, Nick.”
Josh Thomson also explained that he had a different opponent in mind for Paul:
“Name me another person that you could think of in your mind. I would say Masvidal if Masvidal didn’t sign a long-term contract. I’d say someone like Masvidal, someone with a boxing/standup background, boxing background. I could see that.”

It looks like “The Problem Child” already had a plan in place to fight Diaz and Masvidal when he started mentioning them regularly in the media. In his post-fight interview after the second fight with Woodley, Paul called out both UFC fighters. Reportedly, Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz left the arena shortly after the fight ended. He said:
“And Masvidal and Nate Diaz, you’re all a bunch of assholes for leaving this arena, because I know you don’t want that shit.”

Jake Paul and Jorge Masvidal trained together as “The Problem Child” geared up for his boxing match against Ben Askren. Masvidal was brought into Paul’s camp for KOing Askren in five seconds at UFC 239.

Jorge Masvidal responded to Paul’s challenge with a tirade that said the internet star couldn’t afford to get in the ring with him. He also said he knew the truth about Jake Paul’s lack of ability to turn a profit.
“Now to address this little guy, what’s his face. The f****r. listen man You can’t afford me. You understand? You can’t afford me and all the other names you mentioned. I know what you’re paying for and you’re talking a big game. They say $50 million here, $50 million there. But bulls***. If that were the case, Floyd Mayweather would have taken the fight to you. But he didn’t because you don’t generate that kind of revenue.

Jake Paul responded by proposing $5 million for Masvidal plus a percentage from PPV sales. Masvidal was unconvinced when he asked for a $20 million purse and a percentage.
