Joseph Gordon Levitt recently been hanging out with vanity fair to make a career retrospective video, which he fondly recalled working together Bruce Willis in 2012 grinder. While this was presumably recorded before Die Hard star announced his resignation Last week, it still pays homage to what made the Hollywood icon so memorable.

Directed by Ryan Johnson, grinder features Gordon-Levitt and Willis as the same time-travelling assassin confronting a different version of himself. The younger actor welcomed the challenge, even though the film’s makeup artist declared it impossible to make the two actors identical.

“One of my traits of success as an actor to myself is ‘Do I look different on screen than I do?'” said Gordon-Levitt. “That’s probably the reason grinderis perhaps my favorite performance because it is the most diverse. Now admitted somehow cheated with the prosthesis will look different. I get these thrills the most like, Wow, it really is like it’s someone else, not me. I put a lot of work into trying to achieve my vision, which wasn’t a Bruce Willis impersonation but sort of had the spirit of Bruce Willis, and if I had to pick just one favorite acting, this one would be there for me.”

Though Gordon-Levitt had some experience of his own at the time, he began acting as a child in projects such as Angels in the outfieldHe certainly appreciated “a moment of validation” from Willis.

“Later on in the film there was another scene where we yelled at each other,” he recalls. “I don’t know if Bruce did it on purpose or unintentionally, but it was kind of the highest compliment he could give me. Right after they said “cut,” he turned and walked back to his marker. He didn’t even say it to me, he just said to himself, ‘Sounds like me.’ And I just turned to myself and said, ‘Damn yes!’ I think knowing him that was really his most generous way of complimenting me, but it was very nice to do it that way.

Looking back on his career highlights, Gordon-Levitt praises other former employees such as Johnson and (500 days of summer Director Marc Webb. In doing so, he also goes into detail Don Jonhis screenwriting and directing debut in 2013, in which he starred Scarlett Johansson.

Gordon-Levitt is currently starring in the Showtime series Super pumped and will appear in live action Pinocchio as the voice of Jiminy Cricket. It was too recently announced that he would portray Johnny Carson in a biopic miniseries.
