Take every opportunity to stand up for her daughter

Jamie Lee Curtis first revealed that her 26-year-old daughter was trans during an interview with AARP Magazine in 2020, saying she “watched with wonder and pride as our son became our daughter Ruby.”

In an October 2021 interview with People, Ruby, a video game editor, revealed that she “wasn’t worried [about coming out]. They have accepted me like that my whole life.”

Curtis also reiterated that she didn’t bother to explain or justify her daughter’s identity. “I’m not trying to force-feed people anything. I’ll just say, ‘That’s our family’s experience.’ I’m here to support Ruby. Thats my job.”

And in the cutest Twitter exchange, Curtis wished Ruby a happy birthday. “I am proud to be your mother and send support to all trans families in the US who are targeted by conservative lawmakers and I swear to use my freedom of speech to support my child and all trans children trying to free to live as they are.”

Ruby then answered: “My mother has always supported me since I came out as trans. I love her so much. There are allies for the trans community everywhere. All you have to do is look for them and we will be by your side for the long term.”

Officiating Ruby’s wedding in the best way

Not only did she support Ruby in her everyday life, but she also pulled out all the stops by celebrating her wedding in May 2022.

Speaking of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Last year she revealed the wedding had one World of Warcraft theme, complete with matching costumes. “It’s a game, I don’t know,” she admitted, “she’s an admiral. I went on Etsy and wrote ‘Jaina Proudmoore costume’ and there came a woman who had the costume.

“I said, ‘Great.’ We exchanged ideas, I paid her a nice sum of money for it.”

And it seems it all paid off judging by the spectacular photos from the big day. “YES THEY DO AND THEY HAVE! MARRIED! RUBY and KYNTHIA,” Curtis wrote in an Instagram post alongside a photo of the newlyweds.

She later described the wedding day as “beautiful” and Kynthia as “cute”.

Using their platform to condemn the growing hatred of transgender people

In addition to celebrating her daughter, Curtis has also used her platform to speak out against rising anti-trans legislation and hateful rhetoric towards trans people in the mainstream media.

Speaking of Cadena SER radio, She explained, “I have a trans daughter. There are threats against her life right now [for] their existence as human beings. There are people who want to destroy them and people like them.

“The level of hate… [It’s] as if we hadn’t learned from fascism, [as if] we have not learned what the result of this is: the annihilation of people. That is shocking.”

The veteran Hollywood actor also confirmed that she uses her voice to urge change.

“Jamie Lee Curtis is scared, and you should be too,” she said. “And Jamie Lee Curtis has a voice and she’s trying to use it, and so should you. And that’s how we change things. We think about them, learn about them, and then use our voice to raise awareness and fight against them.”

And after facing backlash for her comments, she doubled down through tweeting: “I don’t want to fire anyone. I aspire to stand against anti-Semitism, white supremacy, fascism, transphobia and other oppressive regimes and ideologies whose sole purpose is to silence, obliterate and annihilate others.”

Admitting that she’s always learning something new

Throughout her Allies journey, Curtis has always been open about the fact that she’s always growing.

“It learns new terminology and words. I’m new to this. I’m not someone who pretends to know much about it. And I’ll mess it up, I’ll make mistakes. I want to try to avoid making big mistakes,” she told People.

“You’re slowing down your speech a little. You become a little more careful about what you say. as you say You’re still screwing it up, I screwed it up twice today. We are human beings.

“I am a grateful student. I’m learning so much from Ruby. The conversation continues. But I want to know: how can I do this better?”

Curtis also told AARP that she’s getting rid of her “old notions” about gender and going through a “constant metamorphosis.”

Their Oscars statuette gives them pronouns

Being a trans ally doesn’t stop for Curtis during awards season. Not only did she address the need to introduce gender-neutral categories after winning the trophy for Best Supporting Actress at the 95th Academy Awards, she also dedicated her Oscar to her daughter.

In conversation with The Today Show, she explained that she had given her award she/they pronouns. “In support of my daughter Ruby, I’m letting her be a she/her,” she explained. “I’ll just call them ‘they/them’ and they’re doing great, settling in.”
