Just in time for shorter days this Halloween season, beautifully carved pumpkins light up the night along a mile-long trail through Camellia Forest and Oak Grove at Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge.

According to Jennifer Errico, Descanso Gardens marketing manager, this year’s Carved experience will feature more than three times the number of pumpkin displays compared to previous years. “If you’ve loved Carved in previous years, you’ll love it even more this year, we’ve ramped everything up.”
“There are more pumpkins, more lights, and a great new art installation lit with UV light.” Visitors will also enjoy an expanded area near the grove with a hay maze and a walk-in pumpkin house made from pumpkins by the gardens’ horticulturists and pumpkins was built.
Of course, there’s still the eye-catching, individually carved £200 pumpkins, which are continually being created by artists throughout the event. Artists have to keep creating new pumpkins as they only last 4-5 days once cut open.
Another problem is squirrels.
The squirrels at Descanso Gardens enjoy the carving event just as much as humans do, just for a different reason, they love nibbling on the delicious pumpkins. The staff even tried brushing the pumpkins with vinegar to no avail.
But her appetite for pumpkin has an advantage; Visitors can watch the artists at work throughout the event trying to keep up with the squirrels’ appetites.
Carved runs October 7-31 from 6pm-10pm at Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge.
