Jack Harlow, Yung Lean with FKA branches

So it marks Fergie, immediately yes: Jack Harlow, “First Class” –Has a rapper ever sampled a 2006 Fergie song? Probably not, but if anyone could prove it can be done cleverly, it’s Jack Harlow. On the new release, First Class, the internet’s new friend says ad libs alongside the Glamorous chorus, “I was a G, puke the L, sex in the AM, OR-O-U-S, and I can bring.” you in the first class,” he promises. Despite the fact that he’s only 24 years old and looks like a mediocre man who would ask “Where’s my hug?” when I meet him, I believe it! The track is a promising preview of Harlow’s forthcoming album, Come home, the kids miss you, due next month. In recent press, the rapper revealed that he’s actively trying to collaborate with living legend Dolly Parton. “I want to do something hard to her,” he said. If Ms. Parton is still unavailable after this release, I know a few girls (me) who are into hard shit. – Audra Heinrichs

It’s a Vibe!: Yung Lean Featuring FKA Twigs, “Bliss” – This is simply a dream come true for fans of the ethereal wonder, the English singer-songwriter FKA branches. she goes beautifully with the wired antics of Swedish rapper Yung Lean, who just released his new mixtape, Stardust, with this groovy collaboration. It’s the fast tempo and fluttering verses Reminiscent of early 80’s sounds, with a synthetic echo for added kicks. There’s nothing more satisfying than watching one blissfully messy music video showing a couple of curious characters dressed for the altar while riding in a chandelier-equipped car.– Ezinne Ukoha

In order! Who Doesn’t Like Treats?: Chlöe, “Treat Me” – On Treat Me, the second release from her highly anticipated debut solo album Chluh offers listeners another catchy tune with many of the same vibes we’ve come to expect from the singer. This time she tries Bubba Sparxxx, “Ms. New Booty” so I tend to – at least – like it. The video, which features head-to-toe black and white shots of Chloe in latex, shows off an impressive – dare I say Janet Jackson-esque – choreography and twerking on a rhinestone bikini-clad dining table is a treat in itself. Still, I hope it’s a little slowerd-down on the album. It would be a disservice not to spend some time presenting these flawless vocals without distraction. -AH

I Go, I Go YES: Peggy Gou, “I Go (Soulwax Remix)” – This snappier version of South Korean producer Peggy Gou’s 2021 single ‘I Go’ regularly does something brilliant: She cuts. At some points, the music pauses for a split second every four bars, allowing for real drive when it picks up again. It’s like sparkling mini drops. Belgian duo Soulwax, who have managed to develop their sound significantly and remain great in their nearly three decades in the business, work with keyboards that mimic classic Todd Terry and a grinding rhythm that mimics him theme to MTV’s 80s/90s dance show Club MTV. The similarity in sound can certainly not be a coincidence and shouldn’t be either. – Rich Juzwiak
