On Saturday night at Leeds’ First Direct Arena, Josh Warrington has a chance to become a two-time world champion when he takes on Spain’s Kiko Martinez.
Martinez won the IBF Featherweight World Title in his last fight as he turned the odds on his head to beat Kid Galahad in stunning fashion.
The past few years have been tough for the ‘Leeds Warrior’ after he was brutally stopped by Mauricio Lara earlier last year and the rematch was abandoned after just two rounds due to a laceration to Lara’s left eye.
Although he has not had a win in the ring since 2019, a fortuitous turn of events has given Warrington a chance to reclaim the belt he once wore and he is determined to take the opportunity, as he said on his Instagram story .
“I just want you to know that next Saturday night I will give absolutely everything in that ring to win that belt back.
“It’s time for me to be back on top, so next Saturday I’ll make more history and become a two-time world champion.”
Warrington boasts one of the best and loudest fan bases in boxing and he was quick to acknowledge his supporters on Instagram.
“I just want to say, as always, a huge thank you for the support. I know I always say it, but it’s really appreciated.”
The ‘Leeds Warrior’ will need the crowd behind him if he is to defeat an experienced and revived Martinez.
The pair have previously met in the ring in 2017 at the same venue where they will box on Saturday night.
At that time, Warrington emerged victorious over twelve rounds by majority decision and is therefore hoping for a repeat on Saturday evening.
