Because every contentious case is riddled with potentially confusing — not to mention disgusting — details, we’ve taken the liberty of highlighting all the chilling details you should know:
Harvey Weinstein
In 2020, as Weinstein began his trial in New York, he was facing sexual assault charges in Los Angeles. As of July 2021, Weinstein was charged with four counts of violent rape and violent oral copulation, two counts of sexual assault through restraint, and one count of sexual penetration through the use of force. Corresponding prosecutors, Weinstein’s most recent charges stem from: an alleged rape that took place between September 2004 and September 2005; the rape of a second woman on two separate occasions in November 2009 and November 2010 at a Beverly Hills hotel; the sexual assault of another woman at a Beverly Hills hotel in May 2010; and the sexual assaults of two women in separate incidents in 2013.
The women, identified only as Jane Doe 1-5, are expected to testify in court. Corresponding diversityJudge Lisa B. Lench will allow four more women as “Witnesses to previous bad deeds‘ – neither of which will be prosecutors Daryl Hannah or Rose McGowan, however, as they were blocked by Lench. It’s unclear who all the witnesses will be, aside from actress and wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Jennifer Siebelwho accused Weinstein for sexual assault in 2017.
As at his previous trial, Weinstein pleaded guilty, claiming that all alleged assaults were consensual. As for the allegations, his attorney told reporters they “dated many years ago” and could not be substantiated or corroborated by “forensic evidence” or “credible witnesses.”
The process is expected It will take eight weeks and the proceedings will not be open to the public, except for 24 reporters and two cartoonists.
Danny Masterson
A series of delays – the the latest of these Due in part to his affiliation with Scientology, Masterson’s criminal case has been extended, but this week the actor will finally stand trial for alleged rapes that took place in the early 2000s. Masterson is accused of raping three women — two women known as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, and a former girlfriend, Chrissie Carnell Bixler — at his Los Angeles home.
Bixler, who dated Masterson from 1996 to 2001, claims that he stunned and attacked her while she was unconscious. During their relationship, Bixler claimed she alerted an ethics officer for the Church of Scientology – of which she was also a member – but was told that because she and Masterson were a couple, what happened to her was not a rape . She claimed she later confided in a minister who displayed no more than the same indifference. “My job as his girlfriend was to give in to him whenever he wanted,” Bixler said of her appearance on the show Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. “I should lie there and take it.”
Jane Doe 1 and 2 have made similar allegations, stating that in addition to being raped unconscious, they too were intimidated by the Church of Scientology when attempting to come forward.
The Church of Scientology is expected to inevitably have a role in the case, although Masterson’s attorneys have done so expressly discouraged it. Of the witnesses expected to testify Lisa Marie Presley is reportedly being subpoenaed by the prosecutor’s office. Presley was a longtime Scientologist until she left the Church in 2012. She is also linked to Jane Doe 1.
The actor has vehemently pleaded not guilty denied all allegations.
Kevin Spacey
In 1986, then 14-year-old actor Anthony Rapp was allegedly groped by Spacey at a house party in New York City. Now, 36 years later, Spacey is being sued by Rapp for psychological damage caused by the incident.
The court case, which began last week, has already shown Rapp’s emotions Transcript against Spacey. According to Rapp, Spacey invited the teenage Rapp to a party at his house when they were both appearing in respective Broadway shows. Arriving at the party, Rapp told the court he was uncomfortable because he didn’t know many of the guests. After going into a bedroom alone to watch TV, Spacey walked in and was reportedly “restless on his feet” and clearly drunk. The older actor, who was 26 at the time, approached Rapp, grabbed his buttocks and lifted him onto the bed. Rapp claimed he was forced to “squirm out” when Spacey “pinned” him under his body.
“I had to get out of there,” he testified. Upon reaching the front door, Rapp claimed Spacey asked, “Are you sure you want to leave?” Rapp said yes and returned to the apartment where he stayed with his mother.
In 2017, after the allegations became public, Spacey noted wrote on Twitter that he did not recall the alleged incident but apologized for it: “But if I acted as he describes at the time, I owe him the most sincere apologies for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.”
In addition to Rapp’s case, Spacey is also currently confronted Charged with sexually assaulting three men over a decade ago in London. He plead not guilty and is due to go to court there next year. He was publicly accused of sexual misconduct four other men However, charges were either dropped or not pursued.
