Is Henry Cavill’s dream “Warhammer 40K” gig threatening not to start?

Henry Cavill fans opened the champagne when it was announced he would be in a movie Warhammer 40K show on Amazon Prime. The news came after Warner Bros. said he wasn’t going to return as Superman after all and his departure from Netflix The Witcher under something like a cloud.

A starring role (and executive producer credit) in a warhammer Show sounded like Cavill’s dream job as the actor was a die-hard fan of the tabletop game and had paid a visit to Games Workshop’s HQ to see where the magic is made. But a new report suggests we may all have partied prematurely.

Business Live reports that Games Workshop says it still hasn’t signed an official agreement with Amazon to make the show. The news comes as the company reported pre-tax profit of £83.6m through the end of November 2022, up from $88.2m in the same period last year.

The article quotes investment director Russ Mold, who emphasizes that Games Workshop’s partnership with Amazon is not yet formal, but acknowledges that Games Workshop could use the proceeds:

“A final deal is yet to be signed or sealed, and even if or when it is made official, it could be several years before any television or film projects hit screens and Games Workshop begins receiving royalty payments.”

We hope this is more of a formality than a reference to Amazon Warhammer 40K is in danger of being canceled before it’s even started, although we should pray that both companies sign on the dotted line as soon as possible, if only because we don’t think we have any more bad news for Henry Cavill can handle.

More on this Warhammer 40K at Amazon, as we hear it.
