Instead of banning ‘critical race theory’ teaching, legalize school choice – Orange County Register
Glenn Youngkin was recently elected governor of Virginia in part because he promised to ban teaching CRT.
CRT stands for Critical Race Theory, which argues that every American institution upholds white supremacy.
Before Youngkin’s unexpected victory, the media mocked him for complaining about CRT.
NBC’s Nicolle Wallace said it’s not even taught in public schools. “That’s like we ban ghosts!” she laughed.
She is wrong.
In my new videotapes, journalist Asra Nomani reveals some rather macabre CRT lessons taught in many schools.
Nomani filed a Freedom of Information Act request to force school districts to disclose how they pay consultants to spread critical racial theory.
“We found more than 300 contracts,” says Nomani. “Every day, I get a new contract. For them that denial is just part of their campaign.”
A CNN guest, history teacher Keziah Ridgeway, admitted that CRT affects the way some teachers teach. “That’s a good thing, isn’t it?” she speaks. “Because race and racism are really the building blocks of this country.”
Really? Building blocks?
Is not!
America has a long and nasty history of racism. Some racism still exists. But it is not a “building block”.
“They want to see society as a whole through issues of race,” complained Nomani. It is “propaganda for our children’s rights.”
“Claim the children?” I push back. “It’s an exaggeration.”
She pulled out a number of children’s books that are now part of the curriculum in some schools.
“Woke Baby” teaches children to be “a good revolutionary”.
“A Is for Activist” reads like a union recruitment manual. “M is from ‘Megaphones Marching.’ … Acclaim! It must be May day! ”
“Not My Idea” calls “whiteness” a deal with the devil. It depicts a white man with a pointed tail and goat’s hooves and tells children that they sell their souls because “virginity” gives them “stolen land” and “stolen riches.” “.
The author, Anastasia Higginbotham, said, “I made a book for white children, encouraging them to connect with the heartbreak of racism.”
Nomani said, “Imagine if a black kid received a book that said ‘bad luck is a bad thing?’ … Shame is used as a lever to control people. That should not be done with children.”
I said, “America has a history of racism.
“We have to confront it,” she said. “But America does not have a monopoly on racism. I come from a nation of ‘people of color’, and they are racist. “
India, her home country, has had a nasty caste system for thousands of years.
Slavery began in the Middle East. It thrived in Africa long before slaves were brought to the Americas. The Americans (along with the British, the French, and the Mexicans) really helped put an end to this practice.
But today American students think America invented slavery.
This is “state-sponsored teaching,” says Nomani. “It’s a bigotry they’re teaching. … It’s immoral. I am a brown Muslim immigrant woman from the United States. I know more freedoms in this country than in any Muslim country in the world.”
“But they are not in a Muslim country,” I pointed out. “They’re in America, and there’s still racism here.”
“But to suggest that all of America is racist and bigoted… like racist and bigotry against people of color,” she replied.
People need to care about this, Nomani said, “because it’s the taxpayers who are funding this.”
Some conservatives want to ban teaching CRT. That’s not a good idea. The government should not ban ideas or take away teachers’ choice. Prohibitions shield students from important topics.
A better solution is to legalize school choice.
Let parents bring our tax dollars to a school of our choice.
