HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) — An innocent salesman was shot dead when a shootout broke out outside a gas station in southwest Houston.

Police said two groups of people began fighting just after 10 p.m. Sunday outside the Texaco gas station on the 10600 block of South Wilcrest, near South Drive.

Shots were fired during the altercation and the employee went outside to see what happened, police said.

He was shot in the leg by a stray bullet. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is said to be fine.

Investigators said people in both groups had guns and were shooting at each other. They don’t believe the employee was an intended target.

One of the groups was questioned by police, but the other group ran away, officials said.

So far no charges have been filed.
