The sixth part of Scream The franchise has received rave reviews and has been hailed by many critics as Ghostface’s best release since the original 1996 film.
scream VI opens in the UK on Wednesday (March 8) and initial reviews of the film have been overwhelmingly positive.
The latest installment in the popular slasher franchise picks up where the 2022 reboot left off as the Carpenter siblings (Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera) leave Woodsboro to join twins Chad and Mindy Meeks (Mason Gooding and Jasmine). to start new life in New York Savoy).
However, the past soon returns to haunt them as Ghostface reappears to pursue the survivors, leaving carnage behind.
Pop culture curator PopCrave highly praises the new film, he describes scream VI as “what may be the franchise’s strongest entry since the original”.
Described as “darker, gory and violent than ever before,” the film has a stunning opening scene and a ghostface that “has never been scarier.”
Filmmaker Dan Marcus echoed these sentiments, writing, “The killings are bloodier, the horrors are more terrifying, and the suspense is more gripping than ever.”
Many critics were impressed with the way the film honors the legacy of the iconic franchise.
Film critic Shannon McGrew also praised the film, writing that those who were less than impressed with last year’s offering should leave all doubt at the door: “Your socks will be ripped off,” she wrote.
Fans have responded with delight to the overwhelmingly positive reviews. Ortega, who plays Carpenter’s younger sister, and Gooding received particular praise.
Gooding was reportedly called “outstanding,” and Ortega “made it again” as the current reigning pop culture scream queen.
Review aggregators Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes have yet to release their reviews due to an embargo pending the film’s release.
