India Covid-19 cases: India records 795 new COVID-19 cases, 58 deaths

With 795 new coronavirus infections reported in a day, the total number of COVID-19 cases in India rose to 4,30,29,839 while active cases fell to 12,054, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health updated on Tuesday. The death toll rose to 5,21,416 with 58 new fatalities, the data updated at 8am.

Active cases account for 0.03 percent of total infections while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 percent, the ministry said.

The active COVID-19 case count has seen a reduction of 543 cases in 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was 0.17 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 0.22 percent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease rose to 4,24,96,369 while the death rate stood at 1.21 percent.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far as part of the nationwide COVID-19 immunization drive have exceeded 184.87 million.

India’s COVID-19 balance sheet had crossed the 20 lakh mark on 7 August 2020, 30 lakh on 23 August, 40 lakh on 5 September and 50 lakh on 16 September. It surpassed 60 lakh on 28 September and 70 lakh on 11 October, surpassed 80 lakh on 29 October, 90 lakh on 20 November and surpassed the one crore mark on 19 December.
