‘I would hide’ – Roy Keane offers a scathing analysis of Manchester United after their ’embarrassing’ 7-0 defeat by Liverpool

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has infiltrated the Red Devils squad following their ’embarrassing’ and ‘shocking’ defeat to Liverpool.

The Red Devils lost 7-0 at Anfield – their worst Premier League defeat ever and worst league defeat since Boxing Day 1931.

Erik ten Hag’s side went into the break just a goal behind the Merseyside side after a fine goal from Cody Gakpo to level the game.

But United capitulated in the second half as they scored six goals, with Mohamed Salah becoming Liverpool’s all-time top scorer with 129 goals.

And Keane didn’t hold back in analyzing his former employers – just a week after they won the Carabao Cup.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Keane said: “If I was beaten 6-0 or 7-0 I would hide. I would be missed for a few months. It’s really so embarrassing.

“A shocking day. The goal just after halftime, the game was over.

“The older players were embarrassing, didn’t show any leadership qualities. The goals they gave away were shocking. A tough day for United.

“Thank god I’ve never been part of a side that’s been beaten by so many games for Man United.

“The players will be embarrassed, ashamed of their performance. When things got difficult, they left.”

He added: “After winning the Carabao Cup, at West Ham’s game, a lot of celebration, a lot of nonsense, a lot of presentations – there were four or five.

“The circus is back in town at Manchester United. As a player, I was always aware of that. Keep an eye on people, don’t get carried away because you know what this game can do to you.

“I saw a couple of players come out with a laugh and a joke in the second half.

“They had a joke with the Anfield staff at the 1-0 deficit – I don’t like to see that rubbish. You’re here to work, that’s big boy stuff. Forget laughing and joking.”

Keane’s former teammate Gary Neville also stormed into the team, noting: “The second half was an absolute disgrace.

“I’ll start with the captain [Bruno Fernandes] because you are the captain of the football club.

“Bruno can sometimes tease you about his ways but that was horrific in the second half.

“The others didn’t show up. The whole back four was a disgrace.

“It shouldn’t become the norm. This has to be dismissed as something we will never see again.”
