I will not be closing the book on the MH370 tragedy without further ado

KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Secretary Anthony Loke has today stressed that he will not be closing the book on the tragedy of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH370 in a blanket manner.

In a message ahead of the ninth anniversary of the plane’s disappearance, he reiterated the Malaysian government’s position that future search operations would be given due consideration should there be new and credible information about the possible location of MH370’s final resting place.

“I am painfully aware of the desire to close. Since 2014, Malaysia and its international partners have scoured millions of square kilometers through air, ship and underwater operations,” he said in a statement yesterday.

This Wednesday (March 8) marks the ninth year of the missing plane tragedy, leaving many questions unanswered about what actually happened to the ill-fated plane and leaving the passengers’ family members in limbo.

Loke told the families of the 239 passengers and crew aboard the lost plane that no amount of sympathy could erase the sadness and heartache of the loss of loved ones.

“Malaysians will always stand by you and share the weight of this tribulation. We honor the lives lost and will not forget them,” he added.

On the evening of March 8, 2014, the Malaysia Airlines plane left Kuala Lumpur International Airport bound for Beijing with 239 people on board, but disappeared from radar screens about two hours after departure. -Bernama
