I live in a tiny house on a community farm – trolls call it “a bit iconic” but living off the grid is amazing

WHILE many people are converting trucks, vans or school buses into livable homes, one woman decided to buy on a community farm.

Sophie Kovic has been living on the farm since 2019 and shares what her life looks like now on the social media platform TikTok.

“Live your dreams Fam, life is now and it’s precious,” she wrote in the video’s caption, adding hashtags noting that she’s in Australia and living off the grid.

“A year and a half ago I did something that normal people would say is completely insane … I bought into a community farm,” she said, as scenes of baskets of vegetables and free-ranging chickens appeared on screen.

The scene then turned to a tiny house with only a few windows and a front door as she continued: “Here my tiny house is delivered. That’s my two-acre share of a 66-acre farm where I have my tiny water tanks, solar power…”

She showed the inside of the small house, panning the camera around to show a small wooden bar area with a stool, a bed with a mattress and brown linens, and a kitchen.

She then shared clips of the other parishioners walking around the country where there is a community area and an education center.

Responding to how a community farm works, she said they all help in the kitchen, but there are no commitments.

Sophie said they invested “as much or as little” as they could afford.

“We all pay a levy that pays the operations manager,” she continued. “But sometimes we have volunteers and Jeff, who started and lives on the farm, is a leading permaculture expert, so people like to come and learn directly from him.”

Other scenes included a baby goat she witnessed being born, a community vegetable garden and freshly picked berries.

Sophie said there are all kinds of people in the community from different backgrounds, like a cheese maker, a fermentation expert, musicians, teachers and a neuroscientist.

While some people have gushed about their lifestyle and wished they could do the same, not all are for it.

And when one person commented, “Smells a bit iconic in here,” she couldn’t help but hit back.

In a second clip, she was seen in a sundress picking berries while text appeared on the screen.

“To the people who are afraid of things they don’t understand or haven’t experienced,” she began.

“I’m sorry you got hurt, I hope one day you find a way to heal,” followed by a green heart emoji.

“Just love,” she added in the caption, alongside a red heart emoji.

However, others only had nice things to say, with one person writing, “Sounds like a beautiful village of people who really care about helping each other like we should,” with a red heart emoji.

“I would love to live in such a community!” said another.

While a third added: “and that’s what I’m here for”. [sic]
