The original I know what you did last summer became a cult classic when it was released in 1997.
The horror film, based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 book of the same name, follows four small-town friends as they try to cover up a tragic accident after a night out. The group’s original plan takes an unexpected turn when a madman stalks their reunion.
I know what you did last summer starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillipe. During its release, the film generated over $125 million worldwide. This success spawned several sequels, one with some of the original cast and one without, as well as a now-defunct Amazon series. With recent talk of a Sony reboot, which will reportedly see Prinze Jr. and Hewitt reprising their roles if accepted, many wondered if anyone else would return, even though two of the main characters died in the original film.
That question was easily answered on February 10 after Phillipe revealed in an interview with entertainment tonight that he had no idea about the project. When asked if he was approached to do the new thing I know what you did last summer‘ said Philip
“Someone asked me about it. I don’t even know what you’re talking about…I don’t even know about it. Last time I knew they were doing a series on Amazon.”
Despite not knowing about the new film, Phillipe later revealed that he “would certainly be open to it” if asked to return. The 48-year-old explained:
“I love this group of people. I just saw Sarah Michelle recently, yes it’s a great group.”
Details of the new I know what you did last summer are limited. The only information released to the public was that Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct the sequel. At the same time, Neal H. Moritz is currently in talks about returning as a producer.
