How to help Ukrainians affected by the Russian invasion?


As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues, leaving hundreds dead and millions of Ukrainian citizens displaced, Americans thousands of miles from the war zone are looking for reputable ways to help those affected by the war.

Here is a list of organizations working to help Ukrainians in this crisis.

Before donating to a charity, you should identify the receiving organization in charity watchdog groups such as Charity Navigator, charity clock or GuideStaror by checking with the Better business office. Experts also recommend checking an organization’s financial reports for transparency and finding out how much of your donation goes towards the charity’s mission.

The Red Cross is helping those affected by the ongoing conflict. This week the agency has been working to bring water to the people of Dokuchaevsk and Donetsk, Red Cross President Peter Maurer said in a statement.

Nova Ukraine, a non-profit organization based in Palo Alto, California, aims to raise awareness of Ukraine in the United States and around the world. They also provide humanitarian aid to those in need in Ukraine and support efforts to “build a strong civil society, reform its education system and eradicate corruption.”

Based in Nevada, Resuscitated soldiers Ukraine is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the people of Ukraine “in support of their basic human rights and medical rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers”.

The Ukraine Crisis Media Center, a Kyiv-based NGO, was founded in 2014 when Russia occupied Crimea. The group wants to “promote the development of a self-sufficient Ukrainian state and society.”

UNICEF, or the United Nations Children’s Fund, is a UN agency that oversees and provides humanitarian and developmental assistance to children around the world. UNICEF works to provide clean water and other necessities and ensure that children and families in need are immediately supported.

Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) works to help victims of humanitarian crises in over 40 affected countries and communities in Europe and America.
