How is $400 a gas tax refund for every California taxpayer?

blank

About the editor: The proposal to address rising gas prices by giving all California taxpayers a $400 rebate makes no distinction between drivers and non-drivers.

A simple solution would be to reimburse all taxpayers for up to $1,000 per insured vehicle. Although car insurance is based on many factors, one of them is the mileage per year. Discounting such insurance would partially capture this factor and better compensate drivers for increases in gas prices.

This method would also avoid compensating uninsured drivers with a discount, which would be inherently unfair to responsible drivers and taxpayers.

About the editor: The rise in gas prices has hit everyone very hard. One thing you can do right now to start saving is reduce your speed limit.

Just keep it between 55 and 65 mph on the freeway for the best fuel economy. It’s not that hard to do.

About the editor: If the state can afford to give every taxpayer a $400 rebate, maybe it can afford to lower the gasoline tax from 51 cents a gallon.
