How ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ is connected to the original film

The Sanderson Sisters are in the lower back for Hocus Pocus 2! Nearly 30 years after the events of the main film, Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy) make an enchanting return to Salem as another teenager lights the Black Flame Candle.

Hoping not to make the same mistakes as in the first film, the witches immediately set out for revenge and power before the sun rises on All Saints’ Day.

While the film makes numerous references to the original, which consists of numerous Easter eggs over time, there are no cameos from the original film’s three children, Max (Omri Katz), Dani (Thora Birch), and Allison (Vinessa Shaw). Birch was asked to reprise her position but had to decline due to scheduling conflicts, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Although this time the film revolves around a new teenage institution, along with Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo and Lilia Buckingham, it has a connection to the first film that ties it all together. Since the first film ends with the Sanderson sisters’ deaths, you’re probably thinking how exactly they come down in this film.

Following the events of the first film, the witches’ house was now a magical fortress in the sequel, run by a man named Gilbert, who refers to himself as Gilbert the Great.

Over the years, Peak’s persona Becca and her buddies have become regulars at the store, as they are very interested in witchcraft.

As Becca prepares to have fun in the woods on her 16th birthday, Gilbert gives her a unique candle that he has charged with unique powers.

When Becca and her sidekick Izzy (Escobedo) perform a spell in the woods later that night, they quickly learn that Gilbert’s gift is no ordinary candle, as the Sanderson sisters are magically resurrected. The candle turned out to be sure to mix with the remains of the Black Flame Candle from the main film.

Why exactly did Glibert gift the girls the infamous Black Flame Candle? Turns out he wanted to bring back the Sanderson sisters!

As he explains to Becca and Izzy, he practically witnessed the return of the Sanderson sisters in the ’90s while growing up as a young child.

Watching them die in the cemetery as toddlers, he felt that the Sanderson sisters had undoubtedly been misunderstood at the time, and hoped to wear them again in the future to offer them a second peril by killing Becca and Izzy said people love her now.

Of course, he quickly learns that this isn’t always the case, as it seems in regards to Salem’s most famous witches. Hocus Pocus 2 is currently streaming on Disney+
