How did Sam Mills get voted in the Hall over Zach Thomas? Also, is Joe Burrow the next Dan Marino? – Orange County Register

Before revisiting the Super Bowl, let’s talk about some of the NFL’s injustices, Hall of Fame style:

Central defender Sam Mills had a first-team, All-Pro season.

Midfielder Zach Thomas has five men.

Mills has never led the league in tackles.

Thomas did it twice.

Mills hasn’t been on a team for a decade.

Thomas made the team of the 2000s.

Do we need to continue? What are Pro Football Hall of Fame voters thinking about rewriting history and voting Mills to Hall instead of Thomas?

Mills had the support of two cities, New Orleans and Charlotte, to double her vote. Thomas has Dolphins. In a political vote, that’s very important. But come on – where’s the leadership from educated voters?

Mills was cut by Cleveland during his rookie training camp, cut by Toronto in the CFL, and became an All-USFL player three times before joining the NFL.

Thomas started in the NFL, where he was the AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1996.

This is not a post to ask Mills, who has clearly had a great career. If Hall voters want to put Mills in, that’s fine too. But how could they get Mills in before Thomas?

This goes back to the voting process that took place in the Hall and how it was done behind a curtain of silence. Every Hall of Fame vote has its problems – no one even knows who voted for the Professional Basketball Hall of Fame. But the way baseball is played is the best – many people debate it in public without hiding who voted for whom.

2. Because we will vote wholeheartedly, Cooper Kupp win MVP of the Super Bowl is only half the injustice. The Los Angeles Rams recipient was supposed to share it with defensive player Aaron Donald. Each player has won the game on their side of the ball until the last turn won. Kupp has caught two ground hits including the winner of the game as well as other big plays. Donald parried a Bengals advance on the first knockdown, then pressured Cincinnati defender Joe Burrow to close the game.

3. Will Joe Borrow be the next Dan Marino? Here are some views on Burrow’s Super Bowl aspirations, which are uncanny like Dan Marino’s early career years:

But there are some problems he will face when he returns to this game: 1) AFC has many young midfielders with franchises. Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert are all 26 years old or younger; 2) Bengals are not the most stable organization. They made some good moves to get here. Burrow was also fired 19 times in four playoffs, including seven times in the Super Bowl. They’d better build an attack to protect their star defender, or else he’ll get injured like he did in rookie season.

5. There are no lessons for the Dolphins from the Super Bowl they didn’t know about. Get a quarter of a franchise. Get a dominant defensive player. Get a trainer out of the Shanahan tree – oh, wait, they did it. Get lucky.
