HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) — A man was killed in a shooting at a West Houston apartment – while a child slept nearby.
The shooting happened around 10:10 p.m. Thursday at an apartment complex on Block 12400 of Overbrook Lane, off Ashford Hollow Lane.
When Houston police arrived, they found a man with two to three gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said the victim’s girlfriend at the time lived at the home.
She was at her home Thursday night with a colleague who investigators said was the wanted gunman.
The victim went to the woman’s home, although it’s unclear whether he was let in or forced his way in, police said.
Inside, an altercation broke out between the victim and the woman’s co-worker, during which the suspect reportedly drew a pistol.
The victim was shot twice, although four shell casings were found at the scene, investigators said.
The woman’s 5-year-old child slept just a few meters away.
“We were told he was asleep and the child was there, but he was asleep at the time,” said Lt. I.Izaguirre.
The woman and child were not injured.
The shooter left the scene, police said.
The woman knows the suspect, so investigators hope they can track him down.
