Horrific moment Asda van almost collides with cars as it weaves through freeway traffic and tailgates in tunnel

THIS is the terrifying moment an Asda van smashes through two lanes on a busy road at high speed and almost crashes into cars.

The near miss was filmed by an Uber rider, Darren Wells, who called it “shocking”.

Darren, 41, from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, was en route to an event in Canary Wharf, east London, when the van started “to engage and swerve between lanes”.

He told The Sun Online: “There were other cars trying to slow him down. It looked shocking.

“[The driver] was everywhere. The van visibly swayed.

“The van was about to tip over. It was terrifying.”

In the first clip he sent to The Sun Online, the Asda driver can be seen accelerating on the inside lane before violently swerving.

The vehicle is momentarily on only two wheels as they change direction sharply before nearly colliding with a vehicle in front.

Darren’s Uber drivers can be heard yelling “What a lunatic” as the horror unfolds.

A second video shows other motorists trying to lock the van into a tunnel and working together to slow it down.

The van brakes sharply to avoid hitting the rear of the vehicle in front, while Darren reported that the driver was clearly frustrated.

Darren added that during the “scary” ordeal he only thought it would be “carnage” if the driver lost control and flipped the vehicle.

He said he has since asked Asda to contact him via the supermarket giant’s online complaints page but has yet to discuss the experience with them.

The stunned passenger added: “I feel bad for Asda. I’m sure it’s not a representation of them.

“Asda’s logo flying over the highway potentially killing people is not good for them.”

The Metropolitan Police had no record of reports received relating to the incident.

A spokesman for Asda told The Sun: “The actions in this video are well below the standards we expect from our drivers and as soon as the footage was brought to our attention we immediately launched an internal investigation.”
