Historian Tammy Abraham has become a Roma hero, scoring more goals than players like Harry Kane this season

Tammy Abraham will have made himself a Roma hero in the eyes of many as he scored twice in a 3-0 win over local rivals Lazio.

The England striker got off to a flying start in the Rome derby, scoring after just 56 seconds of play at the Stadio Olimpico and deflecting the ball from close range following a corner from the left.

He doubled Roma’s lead in the 22nd minute when he fired the ball into the top corner after a cross from the right.

A 40th-minute goal from Lorenzo Pellegrini sealed Roma’s derby-day boast as they overtook their opponents from the Italian capital with the win.

Videos have surfaced on social media of Roma believers chanting Abraham’s name as the 24-year-old danced with a journalist at the stadium after the game.

Since joining the Serie A team last summer, Abraham has settled in well and has scored 23 goals in all competitions this season, more than any other English player.

Abraham also made club history with his brace for Roma, scoring the most goals in his debut season for Roma, overtaking Gabriel Batistuta and Vincenzo Montella (both 21).

However, despite all these successes, Roma coach Jose Mourinho demands more from his player.

“Great performance,” said Mourinho.

“Today was really special because everything we had planned was put on the field, Lazio tried to play with pride in the second half but we never lost control. No question, the boys deserved the win.

“If you say Abraham is fantastic, I disagree, he can do even more. I demand a lot from him because I know his potential, I’m not talking about goals, but he has to play every game with that attitude.”
