“He has to make a decision”

Chelsea legend John Terry has warned West Ham United about Declan Rice, claiming the Englishman could move away if the Hammers don’t live up to his ambitions. In the same breath, Terry also admitted the midfielder would be an “incredible” addition to Thomas Tuchel’s current squad.

Declan Rice, who was West Ham’s standout player that season, was formerly a member of the Blues’ youth system. After spending eight long years at the club, the longtime Chelsea supporter was sacked in 2014, allowing the Hammers to overtake him.

He has remained loyal to the East London team ever since and has done everything in his power to help them.

When asked if he could give Declan Rice a little nudge about his return to Chelsea, John Terry told Astro SuperSport: “I’m going to get in trouble here! You know what, Dec obviously loves Chelsea – I think everyone knows that.”

Terry, who is said to be Rice’s childhood idol, believes West Ham would need to sign other top players to keep the Englishman in the project. When asked if he would try to convince Rice to sign with the Blues, the 41-year-old told Metro:

“You know what, Dec obviously loves Chelsea – I think everyone knows that. I think losing Chelsea really helped his career. What he has achieved at West Ham is pretty incredible.

“We saw in the FA Cup [against Kidderminster Harriers in February] when he substituted in and scored, and again grabbed the deer by the neck. I think from Dec’s side he gave West Ham everything.”

The former Aston Villa man then claimed David Moyes’ side may need to make some top signings to keep their star.

He added:

“And for me, if I look from the outside, unless West Ham make a big statement in the summer and spend more than £100m and say, ‘We want to keep Dec and we want to bring in top players like you. then I think he has to make a decision.

“I think if West Ham are spending a lot of money and bringing in top players then I think it’s going to be difficult for them to leave.”

Finally, when asked if Rice would be a good addition to the current Chelsea team, Terry nodded in agreement and said:

His performances this season are keeping many top clubs’ eyes on him and West Ham are in no mood to sell cheaply. The Londoners have reportedly set his price tag at a British record £150million. But even then, the Hammers still need a lot of convincing.

Declan Rice prefers Chelsea return to Manchester United transfer

Manchester United have long been linked with a move from West Ham United star Declan Rice. The Red Devils are reportedly looking for a replacement for free agent Paul Pogba and think Rice is the perfect candidate. The player himself unfortunately doesn’t look around Old Trafford.

Declan Rice would still prefer a move to Chelsea over Manchester United despite the uncertainty over what the future holds at Stamford Bridge

According to the Evening Standard, Declan Rice is ready to snub Man United about returning to Stamford Bridge. The England international is aware of the turmoil off the field in west London but is still willing to take his chances.

The player is also keen to play Champions League football, something which seventh-placed United cannot promise at the moment. The 23-year-old’s contract runs until June 2024 and could cost his potential suitor a whopping £150million.
