Gunner, 29, jailed after raping, spitting on and strangling a woman he met on Tinder

A GUNNER who raped, strangled and spat on a woman he met in a “stuff from nightmares” attack on Tinder has been jailed.

Twisted Sam Evans “ruined” his victim’s life after the “extremely cruel” and lengthy ordeal.

The 29-year-old, who was part of the 29th Commando in the Royal Artillery Regiment, put a pillow over the woman’s head, spat on her and strangled her.

He then raped and urinated the victim – leaving her feeling “absolutely humiliated” and scared she wouldn’t get out of Evan’s house alive.

The fiend has now been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of rape, penetrative assault, assault causing actual bodily harm and premeditated strangulation.

In sentencing, Judge Robert Linford said: “Her life went on with no more than a hangover. But hers was completely devastated.

“Anyone who knows you sober and hard working knows a gentle, kind, considerate man.

“But that is incomprehensible when compared to what you did that night through a combination of alcohol and sheer violence.

“It was an extremely brutal attack, the stuff of nightmares.”

Plymouth Crown Court overheard the couple meeting on Tinder and exchanging messages, but did not meet until the day of the July 3 attack.

Evans took the woman back to his apartment, where she told him “not getting any ideas” as he laughed and pulled out a sex toy.

The gunman then launched the terrifying attack as the victim found himself “trapped” on the property.

During a long ordeal, the woman was left under Evans’ “dominion and control” as he attempted to humiliate her.

In a powerful victimization statement, she shared how the “normal, positive and happy young woman” she was met friends the night she was attacked.

She added, “That version of me never came home.”

The woman told the court she was spat on, gagged, peed on and strangled.

She said: “I was crying and begging for it to stop but I was being mocked and laughed at. I was trapped in a constant state of fear.”

The woman said at one point she stopped by “confused and unable to move” and panicked about what was about to happen after realizing she was locked inside Evan’s apartment with no way to call for help.

The victim said she also lost consciousness when she was strangled and believed she was going to die.

She said: “I thought about my family and how I would never see them again.

“I didn’t think I would ever get out of this room alive or if my body would be found – since no one knew where I was.”

The woman said she had “lost faith in humanity” since the attack and still suffers from nightmares.

She said at her lowest point she “felt life wasn’t worth living anymore” and revealed that Evans had done “irreparable” damage to her life.

Evans, who denied seven charges, was described as a man of early good character with no convictions and an impeccable military career.

He was convicted of one rape, two assaults, one assault and one count of intentional strangulation.

The shooter was acquitted of a second rape and a third assault.
