KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) – A restaurant on 28th Street that was forced to close after a car drove through its storefront will not reopen.
After 15 years in business, the owners of the Grand Traverse Pie Company’s Kentwood location announced last week that they were permanently closing the shop due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
News 8 reached out to the company on Thursday for further explanation, but the owner declined to comment further on the situation.
“We have absolute faith that this is God’s will and look forward to the next chapter,” the store said Announcement on Facebook partially indicated.
The Grand Traverse Pie Company in Kentwood was closed In April after a car crashed through the restaurant’s front window, injuring three people inside.
Kentwood Police said the driver struck at least one vehicle on 28th Street before driving through the parking lot and into the restaurant at 3224 28th St. SE.
The owners of the Kentwood store have closed for rebuilding. In a July update on Facebook, the company said it would reopen in the same location with a target date of late August or early September.
“We can’t wait to serve our community again soon,” the post specified.
Eventually, the Grand Traverse Pie Company signs disappeared from the storefront and sign. On September 30, the Kentwood store confirmed customer fears.
“We are saddened to announce the permanent closure of our 28th Street store,” the company said on Facebook.
In this post, the owners thanked their dedicated employees, supportive corporate headquarters and customers who have “helped us run a thriving business over the last 15 years”.
“You, our customers, have made baking and serving fun! We will miss the smiling faces and great conversations and cherish every memory we had with you,” the post reads.
Grand Traverse Pie Company Fans in Kentwood now have to travel 42 miles to Norton Shores to set foot at the company’s nearest store. However, you can order cakes on-line or buy them in selected Meijer and D&W stores.
