–The COOLEST NIGHT OF 2022 FALL SEASON YET is upon us tonight

– First widespread freezing and freezing temperatures are expected west and south of Chicago, with overnight temperatures dropping to about 30 coldest places inland – i.e. towards Fox Valley, DeKalb and Rockford and south to Morris, Kankakee, Rensselaer, IN etc .

–Chicago is heading for its coolest night since late April after trailing its coolest overnight lows since early May at 43 in O’Hare and 47 in Midwest on Friday morning

–All or portions of 17 states, from East Dakotas and Nebraska in the east to West Virginia and West Virginia, are under freezing and freezing temperature alerts, guards or warnings Friday night/Saturday morning

– A second day of highest temperatures in and around Chicago below 60 degrees is coming on Saturday – the first time we have been compiling consecutive 50 degree daily highs in the 5 months since last May.

-A nice rebound in temps will result in a return of the 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday

-The transition back to cooler air could bring the heaviest rains in weeks to the area by mid-next week

–The new Drought Monitor has been released and has shown that 77% of the Lower 48 are drier than normal or in a state of drought, while 13.7% of the Lower 48 are in a state of extreme or exceptional drought


…..Freeze Warnings in all but Cook County overnight – FREEZE WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT from Lake County, IL and in the Fox Valley and western areas overnight…..

TONIGHT: Clouds disperse, gusty winds ease. Temps at the coolest levels of the fall so far. Lows from 37 in city – but low 30s with some isolated upper 20s possible far inland in typically cooler locations west and south of Chicago and Lake Michigan.

SATURDAY: Sunny and cool. Wind from the west/southwest until and during the afternoon. High 59 – a reading that is 7 degrees below normal.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Patchy clouds, cool. Low 40’s in the city – but low to mid 30’s cooler inland locations.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny, a little windy and a little milder. Morning temperatures at the Chicago Marathon begin in the upper 30s and low 40s with a southwest wind of 7 to 16 mph. Afternoon high Sunday at 66.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny, seasonal temperatures. Breeze. High 66 – a slightly cooler lakefront and beaches.

TUESDAY: Cloudy, windy and milder. Chance of a few rain showers in the afternoon – but higher chance on Tuesday evening. high 74

WEDNESDAY: Spooky, mild and windy. thunderstorm possible. high 72

THURSDAY: A rainy start – then varying degrees of cloudiness, windy and getting cooler. high 64

FRIDAY: Sun mixed – but clouds are returning, windy and noticeably cooler. Chance of a few scattered showers in the afternoon. high 56 Grab your thermals! Freezing and freezing temperatures are coming
