Glasgow: Major UK retailer opens new flagship store in city centre

Sovereign Centros, asset manager of St Enoch shopping centre, has signed a 10-year lease with UK fashion and homeware retailer Next for a new 28,000 sq ft store in the former Top Shop premises on Argyle Street.

It comes after Next closed its previous high street store in January last year.

St Enoch is enjoying a renaissance thanks to a £40m conversion of the former BHS department store to bring retail, hospitality and leisure under one roof.

With the store expected to open in October this year, Sovereign Centros is hoping that Next’s arrival in St Enoch will further enhance the center’s appeal as a vibrant destination.

A Next spokesman said: “Next are delighted to be joining St Enoch and being back on Argyle Street after leaving last year. We look forward to presenting our latest Autumn/Winter collections in Scotland’s fashion capital with a planned opening in October.”

Matt Elgey, Senior Asset Manager at Sovereign Centros added: “The arrival of Next reinforces St Enoch’s position as the retail and leisure epicenter of Glasgow city center and will complement our exciting tenant offering.”

Next up are Danish retail chain Søstrene Grene and toy retailer The Entertainer, both of which have recently opened new stores in St Enoch, while women’s jeweler Pandora is setting up just in time for an opening before Easter. Glasgow: Major UK retailer opens new flagship store in city centre
