Gamers are crazy about rumors about the upcoming portable PlayStation – but there’s a catch

After the release of internal documents, rumors about possible new PlayStation consoles have surfaced.

Many have speculated that a PS5 Pro is on the horizon now that the console is in its third year.

There’s an even more far-fetched idea that the PS6 could be in development.

However, with the PS5 just beginning to become widespread due to a global chip shortage, industry experts are finding these ideas a little hard to believe.

There is one piece of hardware that would not be implausible for Sony to develop.

After the financial failure of the PlayStation Vita, Sony withdrew from the handheld market, believing that gamers would not be interested in portable consoles.

However, it has been a decade since Sony removed support from the Vita shortly after launch.

Since then, Nintendo has achieved amazing success with its hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch.

Even the portable-only version, the Switch Lite, has seen impressive sales.

Last year Valve released its own handheld gaming PC, the Steam Deck, which was also launched to great acclaim.

After these popular launches, rumors began as to whether PlayStation would re-enter the handheld space.

With rumors of PlayStation developing new hardware, it seemed likely that Sony was going in the portable direction.

However, according to industry expert Jeff Grubb Twitterthe only handheld console Sony is considering will be unrelated to the Vita.

Instead, he believes the new wearable will be for cloud streaming only, which will not download games onto the system.

This would be similar to how Google Stadia works and will likely work in conjunction with PS Plus.

PlayStation completely revamped PS Plus last year and is always trying to promote its subscription service.
