Foul play not suspected in death of man (50s) at Blacklion, Co Cavan – The Irish Times

A man arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found in Co Cavan has been released after a post-mortem.

Gardaí received reports that a man in his 50s was found unresponsive at a home in Blacklion around 9.15am Thursday with serious injuries. He was later pronounced dead by paramedics. A suspect in his 30s was later arrested in connection with the matter.

In the meantime, an autopsy has been carried out and a Garda spokesman said that based on the preliminary findings of the pathologist “no third-party fault is suspected in this incident”.

“The man, in his 30s, who was being held at Castlerea Garda station has been released from that custody and is no longer a suspect in this incident,” he said in a statement.

“A Garda Síochána is continuing to investigate this matter only in preparation for a Coroner’s Examination File.”
