Floods: 130 damaged roads reported

ROLL: So far, a total of 130 damaged federal and state roads have been reported in flood-hit states, said Secretary-General of the Operations Ministry Datuk Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman.
He said that out of the total of 56 federal highways involved, about RM130 million is needed for repairs, to be carried out in stages.
“What can be accelerated will be done. If there is a need to build a bridge, etc., we will conduct a study first,” he told Bernama after overseeing the installation of the Bailey Bridge on route FT2490 at the entrance to Perwira Jaya and Selancar here today.
He said the 42.67-meter (140-foot) modular steel-plate bridge is being actively installed and work is expected to be completed by tomorrow evening.
According to him, soil erosion stabilization work was carried out yesterday before 80 employees from the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) began installing the bridge.
The road collapse, estimated to be 23 meters long, caused about 12,000 residents to struggle to get into the city after the road was closed to all types of vehicles for the safety of users.
The road connects the residents of Felda Selancar with Segamat and here also with Muadzam Shah. -Bernama
