Signs of a fall were moving in Grand Rapids Saturday morning.
Temperatures dropped below 32° (freezing point), making it the coldest morning since April 28th. Some cloud cleared the lake overnight, allowing the lake shore to keep temperatures in the 40’s.
Saturday is October 8th. Ironically, we usually see our first 32° day or colder on October 8th! In recent years, cooler conditions have endured for a week or more.
FIRST HARD FREEZE
Next comes the first hard frost or when temperatures drop below 28°. On average, this happens a little later in the season on October 21st. In 2021, the first hard frost lasted until November 3rd.
TEMPERATURES THIS WEEK
For those who fear winter, there is good news for you! Temperatures are getting warmer again this week with highs in the 60’s and even 70’s. This keeps low temperatures well above the freezing mark. It looks like we’ll wait a little longer with this hard freeze.
