Fire risk less in lighter winds but windy weekend ahead

FORT WAYNE, Indiana (WANE) — The red flag warning issued by the National Weather Service, which was extended through Friday evening, is no longer in effect.

Our strongest winds have slowed in speed and the risk of fire is not as great as it used to be today.

If you’re burning outdoors this Friday night or weekend, you should continue to carefully monitor any fires you start.

Southwest winds are expected to blow at sustained speeds of up to 15mph with occasional gusts of up to 25mph on both Saturday and Sunday.

A weather system will move overnight into Saturday morning and bring scattered rain to the area, but it may not be enough to completely eliminate the fire threat over the weekend.
