ESPN’s Chris Berman raises eyebrows at Abraham Lincoln’s remark while discussing Patrick Mahomes vs. Jalen Hurts

ESPN star Chris Berman raised some eyebrows on Sunday night as he recounted the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Anchoring post-game coverage on ESPN, Berman delved into the story of Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts as they became the first black quarterbacks to start the same Super Bowl. The storyline reigned supreme all week, but Berman took it a step further on Sunday night.

“Also, of course, this is the first time that two African American quarterbacks have been going head-to-head in the Super Bowl. Appropriately, February 12 is Abe Lincoln’s birthday,” Berman said.
The broadcaster’s statements attracted some attention on social media.
Mahomes and a later holding penalty brought the Chiefs close to the goal line and Harrison Butker would deliver the game-winning field goal.
The Chiefs would win 38-35.

Mahomes played through a high ankle sprain that he aggravated again in the second quarter of the game to help the Chiefs bounce back from a 10-point deficit and take the lead in the fourth quarter.
Kansas City would have to hold off Jalen Hurts and the Eagles as the star quarterback tied the game 5:15 left with a 2-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion.
Mahomes ran 26 yards on his butt, putting the Chiefs within field goal range.
On the same drive, Eagles cornerback James Bradberry was called to a defensive hold when it appeared he grabbed wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster’s back. Fans watching at home debated the penalty, but regardless, the call stuck and brought the Chiefs closer.
