French President Emmanuel Macron stands in Beijing with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping – amid accusations he is now a puppet of the Asian nation.
French President and EU chief Ursula von der Leyen rolled out the rogue nation’s red carpet, where they engaged in business talks and posed for photos.

Mr Macron used the visit to urge his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to help stop Russia’s war in Ukraine – which he refuses to condemn.
He said last night: “I know I can count on you to bring Russia back to sanity and bring everyone back to the negotiating table.” The tense visit comes after years of deteriorating relations between the West and China over human rights abuses nestling with other rogue states like Iran and North Korea.
President Xi made a three-day state visit to Russia just last month to show his support.
But European leaders are trying to make contact with China, with similar trips from Germany and Spain in recent months.
MEPs bemoaned the Chinese president’s false attempts to be a peacemaker – saying the dictator was only using him for his own purposes.
Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Alicia Kearns said his summit would make no difference to helping end the brutal war after his similar peace talks with Putin collapsed last year.
She said: “Over a year ago, Macron met with Putin and then publicly assured allies that there would be no illegal invasion again. Now he is in Beijing hoping to end Xi’s support for Putin.
“Xi does what Xi wants.
“The CCP will feast on the propaganda loot of such a visit and use it to present itself as a peacemaker worldwide.” And an irate Iain Duncan Smith said it was another hopeless attempt at “appeasement” and showed a total “ignorance, to understand China”.
He raged: “China is a clear and dangerous threat to all of us – and Xi’s so-called peace plan is nothing but a pathetic joke.
“Macron was the slowest in Ukraine a year ago – surely under him they would negotiate an appalling peace.
“All they do is bow to China and show the West’s weakness. “Is Macron fleeing Paris only to find out how the Chinese control the masses?”
