Edinburgh: Canonmills, Royal Botanic Garden: Police Ticket Office

The police cottage last operated as a Flower Stop business, but a new owner could “choose to use it for a variety of purposes,” said Auction House Scotland.

The former Police House is on the corner of Brandon Terrace and Howard Street in the Canonmills area, north of the city center near the Royal Botanic Garden.

Auction House Scotland, which is auctioning the former police box at its next room auction at 2pm on September 13 at the Radisson RED Hotel in Glasgow, said: “Dating to the 1930s, Edinburgh’s iconic police boxes are an integral part of what’s around the city they are everywhere in the capital. Some of these now function as cafes, restaurants, and even rental pop-up shops.

“In the days when cell phones didn’t exist, police stations were a vital lifeline for officers on the job, using them to check in with the precinct and take their orders.”

It added: “The interior of the unit is in good condition, retaining a number of original character features, with the added benefits of an electricity supply, water connection (currently switched off) and telephone line to re-install a land line if required.”

Auction House Scotland pointed out that a rolling leasehold agreement is in place with Edinburgh City Council at £50 per calendar month to cover the property and the “small surrounding area”.

Mandi Cooper, Managing Director of Auction House Scotland, said: “This former police lodge offers a small business owner the chance to own a piece of Edinburgh’s history and run their business in a truly unique setting.”

“Additionally, the unit is in a fantastic location, benefiting from a high volume of local visitors and tourists, as well as a number of bus stops nearby.”

The auction will also be streamed live, giving interested bidders the opportunity to watch and bid online. Telephone and proxy bidding are also possible in the event that potential buyers are unable to attend the auction to bid in person. All bidders must register as a bidder before participating.
