Eddie Hall reacts after losing to Hafthor Bjornsson, hoping for a rematch in boxing as bad blood between the former world’s strongest men looks to be over

Eddie Hall says he will take his loss to rivals Hafthor Bjornsson “like a man” and open the door for a rematch while bad blood between the two appears to be over.

The two formerly strongest men in the world were dropped in the mammoth fight – billed as the toughest boxing match in history – but Thor said “technique won” as he won by unanimous decision in the six-round exhibition.

With a combined weight of 47 stone, there would always be some colossal punches, but few would have predicted how many of them actually found their mark as the ultra-heavyweights put on a show in Dubai.

Thor revealed it was the first time he was knocked down by an opponent as he was knocked down twice by Britain’s Strongman Hall flying out after the starting bell.

But the Icelandic star – better known to some as The Mountain from Game of Thrones – showed better stamina and soon bounced back, bringing Hall to the canvas with a brutal one-two combination.

Hall came out swinging a series of wild windmills in the final round but was flattened again when Thor came out looking the more composed and controlled fighter.

Björnsson’s unanimous victory ends five years of a bitter rivalry between the two juggernauts, which has at times turned ugly, including a number of riotous moments in the drawn-out fight build-up – with the bout being rescheduled from September 2021 due to a hall injury.

Complete respect between the fighters, however, only seemed to reign after their clash in the ring.

However, it’s clear the rivalry isn’t entirely over as both teased a rematch in the episode.

And given the show’s popularity, it’s no wonder why.

Thor said: “All the hard work and sacrifice has paid off. I would like to thank my coach and sparring partners, all my family, friends and fans for continuing to support me on this journey.

“I want to thank Eddie Hall and his team for putting on a hell of a show, he gave me a hell of a fight.

“I’ve never been dropped from training, so hats off to him. He can really hit. He didn’t lie! But today I feel like technology has won.

“Understandably, he still seemed a little angry. He lost the fight, so it’s understandable.

“But I’m happy if he wants the rematch I’ll take a rematch, no problem. Would you like to see a rematch?”

But Hall – with an ugly cut above his eye – seemed calm backstage after the fight as he reflected on “one hell of a journey”.

And he now appears to be looking to the future and another meeting with his – apparently former – nemesis.

“I lost but I can take things like a man,” said the Briton. “It is what it is, that’s boxing.

“At the end of the day, I’ve just literally fought the tallest man in the world in a boxing match, I’d love to see someone else have the guts to do it.

“It was one hell of a trip, I really enjoyed it. Hopefully there’s a rematch and we can do business again.

“Take care everyone, big love, the beast.”

The rivalry that dates back to 2017’s World’s Strongest Man competition, which Hall won, is now a thing of the past, too, says Thor.

“I moved on,” he told his YouTube channel. “I told him ‘good job’, it was one hell of a fight. I respect him as an athlete and I just want to keep going.

“Just between us I wouldn’t want a rematch because I just want to keep going but if he wants one I’m going to give it 100 percent.”
