Eagles’ James Bradberry admits committing late-discussed penalty: ‘It was a hold’

With just under two minutes remaining, the Kansas City Chiefs made an automatic first down after a defensive holding call against James Bradberry in 3rd and 8th place.
Instead of the Philadelphia Eagles getting the ball about 1:50 from time and a timeout, the Chiefs wasted more time and kicked the Super Bowl-winning field goal eight seconds from time.

The call on the defensive stance drew a lot of criticism on social media given the timing of the penalty, which likely could have been a no-call.
However, despite negative reactions on Twitter, the Eagles cornerback admitted the umpires made the right decision.
“It was a hold. I pulled his jersey. I was hoping they would let it slip,” he said after Super Bowl LVII.
Head coach Nick Sirianni said there were far too many other variables during the game to blame the loss on a call.
“It always seems to be a phone call. … That’s not it. So many teams contribute to the result of the game. They were better today,” he said.

Former NFL player and podcast host Pat McAfee said the umpires should have eaten the whistle.
“That umpire that made that holding call back at that stage of this game? Super Bowl? huh? Huh?!…” he said. “Hey referee – can’t fucking call it that. OK? It’s not about you, at this point? Come on! We’ve been robbed of a possible overtime game in the Super Bowl!”
