Many call The last of us something of a masterpiece, and rightly so – it has managed to captivate an ever-growing audience and breaks our hearts week after week, leaving us returning again and again to experience repeated emotional trauma.

Still, it’s not perfect — and an eagle-eyed fan over on The Last of Us subreddit spotted something of a slip early in episode six, “Kin.” In a very wide overhead shot of Ellie and Joel crossing a bridge in the snowy state of Wyoming, we see a couple of silhouettes that look like they don’t belong:

While u/ShadowRaptor89’s thread was removed by moderators for moving away from the subreddit’s episode discussion megathread, it’s very clear there are people lurking in the recording that shouldn’t be.

Apologists may argue that the silhouettes we see at the edge of this shot could be the Wyoming residents who eventually ambush our traveling duo, but with Joel and Ellie crossing the bridge from left to right, we kind of doubt this is the case is. Being the hardened survivor that Joel is, surely he would have spotted her? They’re not exactly subtle.

gaffes aside, The last of us Episode six nonetheless managed to shake our hearts with its devastating cliffhanger of a conclusion, highlighted by Depeche Mode’s reintroduction in a completely different context.

Video game fans may have gotten dizzy with all the differences, too The Last of Us Part II Easter eggs featured in this week’s episode, including a potentially pivotal character who makes an appearance in a moment you’ll miss.

The last of us will be back on HBO Max on Sunday with a brand new episode.
