Driver flees police, causes accident, injures 2 dead, 1

CHICAGO — A driver was taken into custody after attempting to swerve from a marked Chicago Police Department vehicle, resulting in a car accident that seriously injured two and killed another Saturday.
Police said a CPD unit attempted to curb a Honda Genesis at the 3800 block of West Madison Avenue around 11:45 a.m., but the driver continued driving and collided with a Honda Civic, which then struck a parked Chevy Impala. This caused a domino effect, with several parked, unoccupied cars being hit on impact due to the Honda Genesis’ forward momentum.
Three people were taken to Stroger Hospital from the scene of the accident. A 29-year-old man was taken to hospital in serious to critical condition. A 27-year-old woman was taken to hospital in serious to critical but stable condition. The driver of the Genesis, a 31-year-old man, was taken to hospital in fairly serious condition before being taken into custody by police.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, one person was pronounced dead in an accident at the intersection of W Madison Ave and N Hamlin Ave around 3:20 p.m., but it’s unclear who was pronounced dead at the time.
The police continue to investigate.
